Wolman: Campaign Update
Dear Friends,
I’ve honed my message to focus on the war economy and how it has created the economic (and moral) crisis. I stand for peace, conversion to a Green economy, and planning for future generations. This shift in priorities will lead to jobs at home and a balanced budget as we defund the Pentagon, restore progressive taxation, and use federal funds to rebuild our infrastructure and social safety net. The attached speech expands on this theme.
I’ve been tabling and canvassing all over CA District 1, which extends from the Oregon border to West Sacramento, with concentration on Mendocino, Humboldt and Yolo counties, although I’ve also been to Napa and Windsor (Sonoma). Volunteers have been handing out brochures and bumper stickers at county fairs and other events.
Paradise Cove Productions has been distributing campaign videos to all the local cable TV channels, and to some PBS channels as well. You can view them at the website www.carolwolmanforcongress.com. Many thanks to Bob and Jacob Clapsadle for all their hard work.
Also, KTVU will be broadcasting a brief campaign speech throughout District 1- watch for it.
My editorials have been appearing in local newspapers- thanks to Jim Houle. Alliance for Democracy is sponsoring a Congressional candidates’ forum Oct 3rd in Ft. Bragg. League of Women Voters is holding a televised candidates’ debate in Eureka on October 20th, 7 pm. Meanwhile, I’ve responded to questionnaires from many special interest groups on issues ranging from disarmament to social security.
Richard Haley is preparing the voter database for phone banking. Since the mail-in ballots are sent out October 6th, this should start right away. Please email writch@writch.com if you are willing to put some time into calling voters. You would them know that I’m the Green candidate on the ballot, who stands for peace, conversion to renewable energy, social justice, and planning for our grandchildren. Rich will send you a list of voters in your area to call, and a pitch. Messages can be left on answering machines. If you reach a person, feel free to chat.
Lawn signs can be ordered at http://www.buildasign.com/campaign-signs/California/U.S.-House/Carol-Wol.... The first one is free, after that they cost $5, plus $2 for wire stakes. Shipping is about $14.
Mike Thompson has lawn signs out- let’s let him know that his seat is not safe. He’s part of the establishment that has gotten us into the current mess. Time for Greens in Congress!
We need money now for more bumper stickers and brochures. Please go to the website and donate at least $20. If everyone who receives this email would do this, we’d have plenty of cash to finish the campaign.
